I read Abolition of man last year at first it difficult to understand at what getting at but after rereading it and thinking about more there is a reason the book is still relevant so many years later. I’m now more into Lewis than before. I’ve been a Christian(Lutheran) fir about 20 plus years but sadly never got into Lewis but I’m glad now I have

It’s a hard read, but absolutely worthwhile to wrestle with it as you did! The best books demand attention and rereading, and I think such is the case for Lewis. Glad you’re a big fan too 🙏

Great prediction from 80 years ago as it continues to unfold each and every day

Lewis was so prophetic here. Hopefully in time for us to change course!

Boom! Spot on and great summary & analysis of AoM. Keep up the great work arguing for Truth!

If you haven’t already, Joseph Weigel has a great podcast called Men with Chests where he tackles AoM. I’ve had him on my substack podcast as well to discuss That Hideous Strength. He’s very knowledgeable and does great work.

Thanks! And I’ll have to look that podcast up. Sounds like a perfectly prescient message to be shared in todays times 🙌

Quite a few years ago, I began to understand the grace of Christ with Truth—God’s highest standards—. His grace covering one allows one to feel safe considering those standards.

The modern church, in our effort to walk in the Spirit, seems to have forgotten Jesus knew Law, lived by the real intent of it, paid thé price so we could be cleansed, have His Spirit of wisdom, and walk in it, seek truth too.

When I was afraid, stressed, I could not see truth clearly.

Grace is not license. It required thé death of the Lamb of God, so we can be covered, safely look at where we have messed up; how we need to be to be better more loving people.

Jesus said tbis about Law: Matthew 5:17-20 It doesn’t mean our old understandings are good, but that we need to appreciate it, and His becoming all the sacrifices, for sin; guilt; shame, oneness/covering/cleansing; healing.. (We still do the Thanksgiving….!)

Ànd Paul wrote Romans 3:20.

Notice John 14:13-15.

So what do we really do with Law? John 1:14-17; 8:31-36…

It helped me to realize”demons believe and shudder”. James 2:18

God wants obedience, and this looks like receiving grace, and then acting on the truth I understand…, ànd seeking to understand more is liberating ànd saving, redeeming, for His glory.

Then one realizes, truth is à treasure of health and life! Praise GOD!

“Grace” derived from Merriam-Webster’s:

“Forgiveness of sin; and divine assistance to do better”.

John 1:16 in NASB: “Grace upon grace”. Waves, no gaps. I began to feel secure enough to confess sin, ask GOD for truth, despite feelings of réjection from respected others. The truth, like Freud might have sought-about me, and GOD’s highest standards of love. 1 John 1:9

We all still have a way to go til heaven, but the Wonderful Counselor, to get us there! Romans 8!

I feel like we don’t talk about this book enough. Relevant doesn’t even begin to describe it.
