Great writing here Sean about a great man! A true hero to be sure. I’ve read his speeches from “Warning to the West” which are great but haven’t read gulag yet. I’ve got gulag on the shelf. Time to pick it up.
It always amuses me to recall how, when invited to go on a speaking tour of the US, Solzhenitsyn disappointed his liberal cheerleaders by spending his time decrying the "unmanliness" and degeneracy of the Western world. My enemy's enemy is not always my friend.
Fundamental truths aren’t rooted in communist or capitalist rhetoric, but in the simplicities of being human - kindness for a fellow being (human or otherwise), concern, care and empathy beyond self preservation alone.
When any purported truths pit ideologies as good or bad they’re self serving narratives built by those in power to align those who aren’t and must be investigated and possibly rejected!
Read large portions of the three Gulag volumes long ago for a Russian literature class in undergrad. Long, difficult reading (compared to Ivan Denisovich, Cancer Ward, First Circle) - but so very good.
Probably one of the strongest quotes of the 20th century.
“the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being"
He's just got such a way of getting to the heart of the issue lol
This is beautifully written, inspiring and a great introduction to a fascinating human being. Thank you.
Amazing work as always 👏 you always have impeccable timing too
Thank you Charlotte! I appreciate your kind words as always too :)

Definitely worth your time! Even though it's long lol
Also read “In the First Circle”.
He found the “source of tyranny: “The Lie.” “ripping the foundations of justice from beneath new generations” To resist is to “refuse to go along”
So simple, but perhaps one of the hardest decisions to commit to in today’s day and age. His writing is such a gift
Also read “In the First Circle”. A remarkable man.
In my bucket list! I’ve heard wonderful things about that and cancer ward!
Magnificent. That's where we're at today. The people have chosen the lie and will pay the price. Colluding with a big lie can only lead to trouble.
Very well said Aisling!
Excellent article!
Thanks Randall!
